Lord of the Rings-The Fellowship of the Ring

Review by Jeremiah Conway

The first installment of Tolkien's classic trilogy was filled with action and excitement. When Frodo Baggins discovers that the ring he possesses is really the one magic ring made by the dark lord Souron, he must go to Mt. Doom in the very center of Souron's desolate kingdom of Mordor to destroy the ring. With nine other companions Frodo starts on his fear ridden quest and faces such dangers as a wicked troll, orc soldiers, and an extremely treacherous and steep mountain. This is an awesome movie that remained true to the novel and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The most unfortunate aspect of this movie was how smoking was portrayed as calming and thought provoking. When the book was written in the 40's the author could not have foreseen how dangerous smoking is. How irresponsible of the creators of this movie to market it to teens, and portray smoking as such a positive behavior. I wonder if Big Tobacco had a hand in this one, or was it just free advertising?
