Teens from Putnam and around the state are taking on
Hollywood and Big Tobacco. We are challenging the way smoking is
portrayed as normal in movies rated G through PG-13. We kicked off the
initiative in October, and we have been really busy. The following is a
list of all that we plan to do this year: (click
here for background Info)
- Educate Hollywood-Placing Reality Check ads in movies, a
letter writing campaign to Hollywood celebrities who smoke in films,
as well as the Motion Picture Association of America.
- Rental Pops-working with local video rental stores to place
palm cards in movie cases of films with a high smoking rate.
- Unscripted-we will write our own newspaper column
critiquing movies based on their tobacco content.
- Stomp-we will host movie nights at local high schools.
- EZ weezy-internet letter writing initiative to send
letters to Hollywood bigwigs.
- Action Project Report-This report will showcase and
highlight all that the youth from Putnam have done in our community.
- Reality Check After Party- The Mock Oscars-Somewhere around
the real Oscar's we are planning a huge fake Oscar night complete
with fake celebrities, awards, glamour and glitz. (we hope to get a
Limousine for RC members and
"celebs").
