Big Tobacco's TARGET AUDIENCE=YOU

"Film is better than any commercial that has been run on television or in any magazine, because the audience is totally unaware of any sponsor involvement."-Robert Richards, President  of Productions Inc. (a movie and television company) 1972*

Ever notice all the tobacco use in films? They say it is for artistic purposes. Why, then, does it always seem to be Marlboro?

It is against the Master Settlement Agreement of 1998 for Movie makers to be compensated for tobacco product placement.*

In Men in Black 2 Marlboro was the brand of choice for all those wormy, alien things. Burger King paid $15 million to get their name in the movie.* How do we explain this? Would the producers give Marlboro free advertisement? It is against the law for them to accept compensation for it, yet they would face a lawsuit from Philip Morris if they did it without permission.

66% of tobacco shots from April 2000 to March 2001 were in G, PG, + PG 13 films. The year before that it was only 21%.*

Non-smoking teens whose favorite stars smoke on screen are 16x more likely to have positive attitudes toward smoking in the future.*
